Heating
Halogen floods produce the tight, intense heat beam bearded dragons need to reach a surface basking temp of 100-110°F. They emit a natural light spectrum and are far more effective than incandescent bulbs. NEVER use heat rocks — they cause severe thermal burns.
Lighting
Bearded dragons require strong UVB (Ferguson Zone 3-4) to synthesize vitamin D3 and metabolize calcium. Without adequate UVB, even a supplemented diet cannot prevent metabolic bone disease. A T5 HO 12% tube (or Zoo Med ReptiSun 10.0) mounted inside the enclosure provides correct UV Index at basking distance.
Monitoring
Accurate temperature monitoring is non-negotiable for bearded dragons. Dual probes let you log both the basking spot (target 100-110°F) and the cool side (80-85°F) simultaneously. Stick-on dial thermometers are notoriously inaccurate — a digital probe model is the minimum standard.

Substrate
Slate tile is one of the safest substrates for bearded dragons — zero impaction risk, easy to sanitize, and it conducts basking heat into the dragon's belly for better digestion. Loose particle substrates (fine sand, calci-sand) carry serious impaction risk, especially for juveniles.
Feeding
